  • wastegate adjustment...anyone done this?

hi guys, how are you? i was reading up on this and even caught an ipd video on adjusting your wastegate. Is this really necessary? when should it be done? i was wondering if it should be done especially after a tune?
Can this also be checked out via computer at the dealership? or is it really a mechanical inspection? thanks

You need to adjust it if you messed with it.

Don't touch it if you didn't touch it in the first place.

No need to touch it if it hasn't been touched. Otherwise, you need a gauge to set it properly...

okay, thanks guys. Is it something though, that with time, can move and get out of alignment?
also, the yellow tube line that controls the wastegate...if the tube lets say where to gave a crack in it, would it not make the wastegate work at all, or can it just work improperly? the reason i ask is cause i've always had a feeling that the turbo hasn't been spooling as much as it should, i could barely hear it when the car was in stock form. That's why i wonder, if i bring it to the dealership can the car be hooked up to the computer and be tested to see if turbo system is working properly?
          thanks

Mine has not been touched i beleive but I'll throw in 15$ if you want to meet up and do it.

Rj240, do you get a discount/cheaper shipping from IPD or do you do it as a favour to members? I'm thinking of placing an order.

Things can wear over time, as well as vacuum lines can develop leaks...

This is why whenever you start to play with boost, or start to modify a turbo car, a quality boost gauge is an absolute must. It will show you not only wheter or not your car is boosting as it should, but also if you have vacuum leaks of other boost related issues...

If your Tcv valve or wastegate was really not working properly, you would feel a problem, or the car would set off a code. I really, really doubt you need a wastegate adjustment....

On top of it, don't forget that in stock form, you're really not suposed to hear the turbo spool that much, it is a LPT turbo engine, wuth the turbo really designed to give you low-end torque, rather than high-end power. 236 lb-ft @ 1500 rpm....

I do get a small discount on certain items, and by placing larger orders, the shipping costs get more spread out over more items...so I can often sell Ipd items for less than you would pay if you ordered direct from Ipd...

I usually place 5-6 orders a year, so if you can wait a little bit, I can certainly add some items to my next order....

Unfortunately, I've gotten stuck with some stuff in the past, so now I require a deposit for special orders like this...

Thanks for the info Roger...i will keep it in mind. I know i had recently change d the TCV on the car and i don't really think the lines might be that old and dry? not sure. I guess i could get new lines , i guess the ones that connect to the TCV? or are there other lines in the system?
let me know for the IPD order...might order something...keep meposted!
