  • is stock exhaust THAT restrictive?/exhaust que.

Hi everyone, just wanted to get some feed-back here...recently did a tune on my car, 2006 V70 2.5T (upsolute) and was thinking about the exhaust system.I just wanted to know if the stock exhaust is restrictive? especially after a tune is done on the car? if i were to do an upgrade, what would be a good size tubing? and can i go from after the stock cat?
    ALSO
In terms of sound of an aftermarket muffler..what would you recommend? i like a nice tone at idle and a growl at WOT (like a nice V8 engine) but without major "drone" in the cabin....thanks

quite frankly, on my T5, I would only go for a larger downpipe... size of the exhaust is pretty good stock ( with boost level lower than 20 psi )...

A friend of mine is just out of dynotuning with is VW rallye car, modified 1.8T. at 21psi the cat vs no cat dyno, same car dame dyno same day did a difference of 4 whp loss with the cat pretty much of the top end...

Hi Dave, i'm a little confused, if you go with a larger downpipe but then go back to the smaller stock exhaust, won't it be causing some back-pressure? was thinking of keeping it stock before cat and bigger after that...with a nice deep exhaust tone....thanks

        salut

Hey chef, we have to meet after the christmas vacation. I will let you ear the sound of a larger exhaust.

I have change the exhaust before I get the tune and It was a diffenrece.
So I thinl yu can get a couple off HP with a loarge exhaust but you will get a lot of db too.

        I resume my step

1- Large exhaust complete line: got power
        2- REMAP:Got power
        3- Cat: lose nothing

Like Dave and Marius says: Driving with a cat change nothing on or car.

Like a say's driving with large exhaust line chnage somethnig (sorry Dave )

But It can be depend of the size of the turbo

Start with a 2.5" catback exhaust system, and then add a 3" downpipe if you want..

a 3.0 catback will be too loud for what you are looking for...

Et l'ampleur du son varie selon la compagnie. Prends-en un avec résonnateur.

thanks for the great tips guys...much appreciated! ya i think a resonator will also be a good idea...in terms of nice growling sound, what brand of muffler would you suggest? Flowmaster, magnaflow, summit????? what would sound good with this engine? OBX?

                all of theme,

                Depend of our wallet

I have start with OBX 3" (EBAY), 3" Vibrant rasonator and 3" Borla muffler (Canadian Tire)

10 months later I was going to Federal muffler to install that parts

too loud and car not working well without cat

4 months later, I have added a CAT (Magnflow) and Glasspack (don't know) at Silencieux GMS at Laval

Right now It'S RonRonne wery well

so...would you guys recommend ordering the parts or getting the parts installed by an exhaust shop? i don't think i can do this myself...
would a bigger downpipe gain that much with my current setup? or is that better with a bigger turbo installed? i have no intention of changing up my turbo and i think that will be the extent of my mods for now.
i have been listening to some exhaust setup's in youtube and find the sound i like is the (in this order): evolve, ferretti? and magnaflow...but then it gets tricky cause it depends on the rest of the setup (resonator, downpipe, cat).
let me know what you think..thanks
