I have an 2003 XC90 T6 and want to do a transmission flush. Can someone tell me what type of fluid I need to buy and where can I get it at a good price?
its a gm tranny and takes ATF dextron3 /mercon most dealers will use castrol and some may still use quaker you will need about 6l for fluid replacement and in case of a flush 12-16l if you go the flush route I recomend BG oil products.
I am going to Lake George tomorrow and I will be passing through Plattsburgh.
I have to go return something a Autozone and I search their site and found this ATF at a pretty decent price. http://tinyurl.com/ybwsbt3
Can someone tell me if that oil is good for my tranny?
Things is that if I change my ATF every 6 months, do I really need synthetic?
Why am I going to change it every 6 months? Because I rather spend $200/year instead of $4000.00 every 3 years for a transmission rebuilt.
Maybe Rj240 could tell us if I'm right, but I read that until your transmission oil don't look darker and don't smell burnt, you don't need to change it.

You can change your transmission fluid every six months, but it's not really useful unless the fluid is dirty or has lost it's properties...
The main reason you should run a synthetic oil is not for longevity, but for it's superior lubrication properties...
An example:
You can change your engine oil every month, but if you always change it for regular oil, it's always regular oil. It may be clean oil all the time, but it's still regular oil.
Synthetic oil has superior properties, and will better protect the engine (or transmission)...that's why you should run synthetic...
Personally, I would say it's better to flush the transmission and run Synthetic fluid with a longer period between flushes, than to flush and run regular fluid every six months...

I definetly agree with rj its the properties that are advantageous not the longevity.......but if you are going the multi flush route I even more strongly suggest bg as they offer component garantees with regular service [ using thier products]
